Attorney Julie Carter was born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law in 1991. Following graduation she clerked for the Honorable Don W. Kennedy on the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Western District. She began her legal career in labor law as an associate at the Kansas City law firm of Jolley, Walsh and Hager, P.C.
In 1996, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona and joined the Arizona Center for Disability law where she practiced in the area of disability rights advocacy. She handled lawsuits involving discrimination in employment, education, transportation, public accommodations and fair housing. In 2000, she became the Center's legal director.
In 2002, she moved to Washington, D.C. when she was awarded a one-year fellowship by the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation. During her fellowship, she served as a disability advisor to Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) who drafted and sponsored the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Following her fellowship, she joined Carter Law Offices. Ms. Carter is in our firm's Phoenix office, but she routinely handles employment, housing and other discrimination claims arising in Arizona, Missouri and Kansas.
