Experienced Attorneys and Medical Professionals

Doug Carter has been a trial lawyer since 1981, with a background in commercial litigation and personal injury defense. He founded Carter Law Offices in Kansas City in 1996, his practice dedicated to plaintiff representation in personal injury and medical malpractice. Mr. Carter chairs the Nursing Home Negligence Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and is active in a number of professional organizations. He has been trained by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy to teach trial techniques to other lawyers, and served as in-house trainer for associate attorneys at his previous firm.

Julie Carter practiced in employment law in Kansas City before moving to Arizona in 1997, where she established one of the first disability discrimination practices in the country. She also served as advisor to Sen. Tom Harkin, lead sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act, before joining Carter Law Offices in 2004. She handles disability and employment discrimination cases in Phoenix and the Kansas City area.

Jeff Garrett recently joined Carter Law Offices. He practices in personal injury, medical negligence, nursing home litigation and commercial litigation.


Legal and Medical Staff

Legal nurse consultant Joni Reist, R.N., M.A., has practiced in nursing for over 30 years, and still works a few days a month providing direct patient care as a licensed nurse. Her real-world insights and connections in the medical community are invaluable in evaluating clients' claims and building a case for damages.
