DOUG CARTER: I grew up in a small town. My father was a Missouri state trooper. Our family was active in our local church. One thing my folks made sure I learned early on and learned it well was the difference between right and wrong.
I got out of Duke University School of Law in 1981 and worked then for one of the largest law firms in the United States. We represented clients, corporations, employers, and large insurance companies, the largest and most prestigious in the country. I learned how those folks think. I learned how they operate. But over time, I came to realize that I wasn't always on the right side.
This law firm we started in 1996. We did so with the knowledge and the commitment that if you put the right lawyers with the right experience and the right focus, you can make a difference. You can be on the right side. And you can win.
