State of Missouri creates program to keep roads safer

Automobile accidents that occur in the Kansas City area and throughout the state of Missouri are responsible for inflicting many injuries upon those involved. The extent of these injuries varies depending on the specific circumstances surrounding each car accident. In the worst cases the injuries result in death.

Drivers throughout the state of Missouri may not be aware that the month of April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. It is also National Alcohol Awareness Month. Missouri drivers are likely aware however of how both of those behaviors contribute to car accidents occurring on roads throughout the nation. While these designations have been declared at the national level, authorities in the state in Missouri have implemented a motor vehicle safety program to address these issues and others that lead to traffic deaths.

The program, which is called Gone Too Soon, was recently announced by the superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. It was developed with the cooperation of the state patrol and several other businesses in the state. The centerpiece of the program is a video that is designed for drivers of all ages and focuses on issues that commonly lead to auto accidents such as:

  • Speeding
  • The failure to use seatbelts
  • Distracted driving behaviors such as texting while driving
  • Drunk driving

In addition to coinciding with the national traffic safety programs, the program’s release also coincides with the start of high school prom season in Missouri. While a joyous time for many, behaviors such as those covered in the program all too often result in devastating car crashes. Hopefully the education will help to reduce the number of those incidents this year.
